They have become the fourth <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.crossingbroad.com\/sports-betting\/pa\">PA sports betting site<\/a><\/strong> to offer online betting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What have we learned so far?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Three big deals following FanDuel&#8217;s launch:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>FanDuel&#8217;s sports betting site in PA &#8230; will be called FanDuel Sportsbook<\/strong>&#8212; we had previously thought Valley Forge Casino Resort branding might be more prominent<\/li>\n<li><strong>There is an iOS app<\/strong>&#8212; to date, no other PA sportsbook is available on iPhones or iPads as they are not coded natively for the platform<\/li>\n<li><strong>It is the same app<\/strong>&#8212; somehow, FanDuel found a way to make its <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.crossingbroad.com\/sports-betting\/new-jersey\">New Jersey<\/a><\/strong> app available in PA, this is a big deal because other state-based sportsbooks had been expected to offer different apps in different states<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>That last point means FanDuel&#8217;s PA betting app will feature a\u00a0<strong>shared wallet<\/strong> with New Jersey&#8211; super useful for those folks who find themselves in both states&#8230; or spent the last year crossing the bridge to bet.<\/p>\n<p>This is a full launch, making FanDuel the first sportsbook in PA to be available on all major platforms.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Betting with no caveats<\/h3>\n<p>Each of the PA launches so far has not been without its issues. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.crossingbroad.com\/sports-betting\/sugarhouse-sportsbook-review\">SugarHouse Sportsbook<\/a><\/strong> and sister site <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.crossingbroad.com\/sports-betting\/rivers-sportsbook\">Bet Rivers<\/a><\/strong> found a way to offer <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.crossingbroad.com\/2019\/07\/you-can-now-bet-on-ios-in-pa-using-sugarhouse-sportsbook.html\">iOS betting<\/a><\/strong>, but it does require a mobile web workaround for the time being.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.crossingbroad.com\/sports-betting\/parx-sportsbook\">Parx<\/a><\/strong> is not available at all on iOS.<\/p>\n<p>But FanDuel Sportsbook not only got into the App Store&#8211; they did it using the same app that&#8217;s available in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.crossingbroad.com\/sports-betting\/new-jersey\">New Jersey<\/a><\/strong>. This might not seem like a big deal, but thus far the thinking has been that sportsbooks would have to offer different state-based apps due to regulation. FanDuel Sportsbook in PA is different. The app will just recognize which state you are in and serve you a custom, pre-approved version for that state. There&#8217;s effectively no difference, though in PA FanDuel will have to abide by Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board regulations, which can occasionally vary.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s also no branding confusion. In Pennsylvania, mobile betting partners are supposed to take on the branding of their casino partners. Deep-pocketed and well-armed thanks to 61% ownership by Betfair, FanDuel has already been spending in the market. In fact, they did it last year&#8211; running ads in Philly even when only one side of the city could bet.<\/p>\n<p>Local sports media executives will tell you that the mobile sportsbook ad spend is so massive it makes up a disproportionate amount of their current ad revenue.<\/p>\n<p>The figure might grow<\/p>\n<p>FanDuel Sportsbook has already been running ads on <a href=\"https:\/\/975thefanatic.com\">97.5 The Fanatic<\/a> as the headline sponsor of FanFest. It&#8217;s no secret they want to get in the market, and there are some rumors they might be here by football season. But as of yet, they don&#8217;t have a casino partner.<\/p>\n<p>As one of the two runway leaders in New Jersey along with DraftKings, FanDuel is set to quickly take the lead in PA. FanDuel Sportsbook&#8217;s PA app is coded for iOS, meaning they will be out ahead of their competitors with an iOS app.<\/p>\n<h3>Android<\/h3>\n<p>FanDuel&#8217;s PA sports betting app is available on Android, but only as a direct download as the Google Play Store doesn&#8217;t allow for online gambling apps.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Is_FanDuel_Sportsbook_legal_in_Pennsylvania\"><\/span>Is FanDuel Sportsbook legal in Pennsylvania?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Yes, FanDuel Sportsbook is legal in PA.<\/p>\n<p>The process of launching a sportsbook in PA was a bit complicated.<\/p>\n<p>Outside brands &#8211; non-licensed casinos in the state &#8211; must team up with a licensed operator to &#8220;skin&#8221; their app. To simplify, because FanDuel doesn&#8217;t operate a casino in the state of Pennsylvania, it must strike a partnership with one in order to make its brand available to consumers within state lines.<\/p>\n<p>With <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crossingbroad.com\/sports-betting\/new-jersey\"><strong>New Jersey online sports betting<\/strong><\/a> regulations, each operator can work with up to three skins. In Pennsylvania, however, the rules are a bit more restrictive. Each operator can only work with one outside skin. For example, FanDuel Sportsbook&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crossingbroadstore.com\/blogs\/news\/fanduel-sportsbook-is-coming-to-pa-with-a-catch\">partnership with Valley Forge Casino Resort<\/a> likely means the Pennsylvania version of FanDuel Sportsbook will be branded as <strong>Valley Forge Casino and Resort, powered by Fanduel Sportsbook<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE: FanDuel Sportsbook in PA is identical to the current offering in New Jersey.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This complicates matters when it comes to marketing the app to PA residents. People like household names and FanDuel brings a certain level of cache, so it will be interesting to how the potential lesser-known branding of the app will impact its overall reach and performance within the market.<\/p>\n<p>That said, some industry insiders have suggested to us that the app will be exactly the same as the current version, so stay tuned. In 2015, some questions began to pop up as to whether daily fantasy was a game of skill or gambling. FanDuel lobbied hard in favor of a game of skill, yet some states still decided to ban it. In 2018, however, Pennsylvania officially recognized daily fantasy as being legal and imposed a 15% tax on all earnings.
